Activity 3 - When do you use email?

For personal occasions I do not use email very often but when I do it Is helpful. I use it to send messages to people that I can’t speak to immediately but when they are able to. I can use email for schooling purposes by that I can do work at home and then send it to teachers, say over the weekend, for it to be marked. This is a good idea as it shortens time between the task set and task completed.

I do not use email on a personal/ social level as I use live chat, like skype, to talk with my friends. This makes it much easier as the delay between messages are vastly shortened and we can here each other’s tone of voice, serious, funny, sarcastic etc…, which is good as it allows us to talk much more efficiently. For work, I would use emails to send teachers work I have done when I am not at school.

The benefits of using email as the next best alternative would be to deliver letters. This is a very long process as you would have to write the message, send it to a courier, then wait for it to be delivered. Then the person would open it, read it and hopefully reply back by writing the message, sending it to the courier and wait for it to be delivered.  By this time the message would be out dated and useless. This is why the email is so much better as it can complete the above process in a matter of minutes or even seconds.

As the email is totally reliable on internet, any type of power cut or something will take the email down.  This is very bad because something small can and will turn off the internet for everyone for a long time. If the website is getting updated, this can also stop people using it. Many reasons stop people using the internet/emails.

The email makes no difernce to my life. I rarely uise it anyway. I prefer to use other communications to the email as it has a few problems. But other people, accounts, business clerks etc… maybe use the email system a loads. As they might have 50 emails come through which thy need to read. This shows that for some people using the emails system, they are productive but for some it is less productive.

I think that the email does exactly what it was intended to do. Internet mail. It can be used to send messages to and fro very quickly and efficient. There have been new inventions which make better use of the email but when the email was invented, it was super-fast. This made is tenfold as efficient as other letter delivery/ courier services.
