spam texting

Tool man

I think that john can’t work properly as he takes too many things with him. It says he takes 2 hours a day and all Friday sorting his administration out. This is a lot of time working but not actually doing any actual work. I believe that technology would be of benefit to john as in what I will say in a few moments.

PDA – a personal digital assistant will be helpful to john as it will keep all of his contacts etc.. in a data log that can fit inside of his pocket. This reduces his admin time throughout the day and can spend more time doing other things.

GPS – global positioning system can help john out a lot due to him not buying maps all the time when they have new roads. GPS can also help him pout as it doesn’t consume time to read where you are, it shortens time between each place therefore giving him more free time.

A laptop – a laptop can help him out as he you can do almost anything on a laptop. From having a PDA on the laptop and he can also put a GPS on his laptop. His laptop can create all accounts of what he does and, with help from the internet, can look at all the tools that he needs and can look at all the latest prices and so can keep up to date very accurately instead of buying a book once a month or so.

If john likes the way he does things and feels that his time is well spent he can keep doing what he is doing and the way he is doing it. But I would go out and get these things myself as it saves a huge amount of time.

Activity 7 - finding relaible, valid information

Not all websites are true? Yes they are!!

Well that is what you would think. Why would someone spend their time to make something fake? I don’t really know the answer to that only that it happens. Some people make fake websites like a fake white house page or to make people think that there is a dog island.

Most fake websites can be put into some groups. Some just send you do random sites. Some try to upload viruses such as key loggers onto your computer, or some even try to make you subscribe to something that is not even real.

If people make fake sites for a laugh then there will be quite a few mistakes in the design. Examples of this would be that the font is not the same as the real website, the colour scheme is different, the pictures are not the same or even that the website has some content blocked.

For the sites that want you to download something or want you to subscribe may be done a bit more professionally.  The 1st thing that would put you off is intuition. Do you think that you should download a file named ‘novirusesinthisdownload’, or do you want to buy free years’ worth supply of models cars? So obvious things will give it away biut if they don’t heres a few things that you should consider. Does the website use an incorrect URL, does it end in .gov/tv/co.uk/com, or something that you know about. Does it ask for you banking information. A real bank would never ask for your bank account Information or your debit card and PIN numbers via email. Check if it actually spells words correctly.  Aslo, check if the images are of top notch quality, if the pictures are in low resolution then don’t trust it, simple!

SMS - Has its time past?

I don’t believe that SMS’ing has become outdated at all. As the article above states, triple as many texts were sent last year compared to 5 years ago. Texting has reached its prime. Meaning that texting is already simple as it is and therefore any improvement on the recent technology won’t be in such demand as phones were when they 1st came out. Texting is very easy as most recent technology has touch screens which shortens the time a lot to send messages compared to the old letters and numbers board.

Due to texting, people have created their own ‘language’ if you could call it that. When texting it makes sense to shorten words by taking out letters that you don’t sound in the actual letter and only use the key letters. Words like ‘LOL, GR8, BRB’/ these days everyone knows what these words mean, but earlier in time, this would’ve been a different language. Even though we used these words during texting, these words and phrases have become second nature to us now and we use them throughout everyday life.

activity 2 - analysisng the 'good old days'

Microsoft word is a great application that can help small businesses, as well as big companies, to help them reduce the amount of paper based systems that they use. It has the basic tools that everyone can use and this application is pretty cheap for what can be accomplished.

An alternative to this would be Google docs. This system is designed to help people upload pictures, videos presentations, etc... To the internet much faster. And as this product is from Google, it can be accessed pretty much anywhere in the world as Google is so popular.

As paper based systems requires paper which you get from trees, you need trees to make the system work. This is overcome by word and Google docs not using paper. This means that in the short run, it is expensive as you have to pay for the application but in the long run it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much cheaper.  I believe Microsoft word would be better than alternative Google docs.  This is because word does much more and to a better quality. Not saying google docs is not very good, it is but Microsoft is by far the best.

As paper systems rarely exist anymore, the need for typists decreased. As the typist had certain skills, they needed to change what they did and how they did it. This meant that secretaries were born. Secretaries do exactly what typists did, but on computers. This was the change from a typist to a secretary.

This meant that secretaries, administrators and accounts could more easily get a job or this is where these types of jobs came from. As computers were so unused back in the day these people with these skills couldn’t get a job so the increase in computers meant that millions of jobs became available.

4G task

this is my table with a side by side comparison of what 3g can do compared to the 4g.

Activity 4 - when do you use mobile phones?

I personally use my phone all the time for personal and social reasons. I do this as it is very quick and effiecient so I know something and can act upon that immediately. For schooling purposes I don’t call or text my teachers as I cant do that but I can texy or call friends to see what work I have to do for example.

I usually use my phone to text as this is cheapest as I am on pay-as-you-go. This means that it costs me when I text and only then. I would usually use my phone inside as it has great reception in their and if I need something I can get it easily. This helps me to get what I need instead of leaving the house and to then come back and get what I have forgot.

My mobile device can be very easy to access as I just slide it open to reveal the keypad and call/ text the number I want. This helps me as I can use it very quickly if I need  to. As the mobile device is pretty darn small it can fit into almost any shape pocket. My phone is very well designed ergonomically so its very easy to hold and use.

The only problem I have run into is that my phone will literally eat the bettery. I need to charge in every other day otherwise it wontwork and will be a big hassle for me. Also if I drop it the components might get unplugged and then wont work. When my phone or any phone in fact need to get repaired it does cost quite a bit in repairs as the trade has a particular skills set.

I feel that my mobile phone does what it does very well and efficiently. This is because it doesn’t have all the fancy things that I wont want or need, but has exactly what I need. This means that the memory doesn’t need to be full up of useless apps and focuses on the necessities.

activity 16 - macromedia virtual classroom

I found that using the macromedia video tutorial was not helpful. I found this unhelpful as it did not answer my question that I had at the end of the presentation. This meant that I had to find some sort of forums then find it like that. This was unhelpful as it took a lot of time were as if I were taught this in a classroom I would’ve been able to ask question with some form of educator telling me the answer.

Although it has disadvantages, I could listen to the presentation on the way to school or at home. This meant that I didn’t need an educator with me to teach me it. As it internet is such a vast place, I can browse lots of information very quickly. But with this in mind, anyone can post on the internet which means that some information will not be true.

Activity 3 - When do you use email?

For personal occasions I do not use email very often but when I do it Is helpful. I use it to send messages to people that I can’t speak to immediately but when they are able to. I can use email for schooling purposes by that I can do work at home and then send it to teachers, say over the weekend, for it to be marked. This is a good idea as it shortens time between the task set and task completed.

I do not use email on a personal/ social level as I use live chat, like skype, to talk with my friends. This makes it much easier as the delay between messages are vastly shortened and we can here each other’s tone of voice, serious, funny, sarcastic etc…, which is good as it allows us to talk much more efficiently. For work, I would use emails to send teachers work I have done when I am not at school.

The benefits of using email as the next best alternative would be to deliver letters. This is a very long process as you would have to write the message, send it to a courier, then wait for it to be delivered. Then the person would open it, read it and hopefully reply back by writing the message, sending it to the courier and wait for it to be delivered.  By this time the message would be out dated and useless. This is why the email is so much better as it can complete the above process in a matter of minutes or even seconds.

As the email is totally reliable on internet, any type of power cut or something will take the email down.  This is very bad because something small can and will turn off the internet for everyone for a long time. If the website is getting updated, this can also stop people using it. Many reasons stop people using the internet/emails.

The email makes no difernce to my life. I rarely uise it anyway. I prefer to use other communications to the email as it has a few problems. But other people, accounts, business clerks etc… maybe use the email system a loads. As they might have 50 emails come through which thy need to read. This shows that for some people using the emails system, they are productive but for some it is less productive.

I think that the email does exactly what it was intended to do. Internet mail. It can be used to send messages to and fro very quickly and efficient. There have been new inventions which make better use of the email but when the email was invented, it was super-fast. This made is tenfold as efficient as other letter delivery/ courier services.

net frog

I feel that the ‘net frog’ website was a rushed idea. I feel that it shows you what you should do if you don’t have the ability to dissect a frog but then it has very basic instructions that aren’t very clear.

The website just feels like someone made it for a school project and had to do the whole thing in a day. The information was very clear or accurate. The layout of the website didn’t have a appealing effect for me as it was just a purple/blue background with the information on a little page. The pictures that it shows you are very small and you can’t see very accurately what they are trying to show you.

However, I do like that when they show you what you are looking at, although not very clear, they try to illustrate what you are looking at. They also have notes and the words that are important, they highlight them which makes it a bit easier to see.

ACTIVITY 14

When starting with the modern world as the homepage I find it very easy to go to the ‘personal computers and information network’ page due to the search button in the top right of the screen. This allows me to search up what I want very easily and efficient. This reduces the time it takes me to do so and is very effective.
Without this feature I feel that it would be quite difficult, not impossible, but quite difficult as the way you choose what you look at isn’t that great.
The thing that I do not like about it is that it doesn’t have many ‘related links’ on each page. I want these as I can them look up something randomly because if I haven’t heard of it, I can’t therefore look it up. This then limits my understanding of what I want to know.
Apart from that, I think that it fits its purpose very well as it tells people about what they want to know, with pictures, and with a lot of detail and information. It also tells you, if you want to go to the museum, how long the tour of what you are looking at is going to be, as well as the cost of the tour and when it is available. This will entice people to come as the site has answers to most of the questions that you would want to know.

What is a virus?

A computer virus attaches itself to a program or file enabling it to spread from one computer to another, leaving infections as it travels. Like a human virus, a computer virus can range in severity: some may cause only mildly annoying effects while others can damage your hardware, software or files. Almost all viruses are attached to an executable file, which means the virus may exist on your computer but it actually cannot infect your computer unless you run or open the malicious program. It is important to note that a virus cannot be spread without a human action, (such as running an infected program) to keep it going. Because a virus is spread by human action people will unknowingly continue the spread of a computer virus by sharing infecting files or sending emails with viruses as attachments in the email.

What is a worm?

Provide your business with the IT resources it needs:: The IBM Smart Cloud Simulator is an interactive tour that will show you several ways that you can use and manage this exciting product.
A worm is similar to a virus by design and is considered to be a sub-class of a virus. Worms spread from computer to computer, but unlike a virus, it has the capability to travel without any human action. A worm takes advantage of file or information transport features on your system, which is what allows it to travel unaided.
The biggest danger with a worm is its capability to replicate itself on your system, so rather than your computer sending out a single worm, it could send out hundreds or thousands of copies of itself, creating a huge devastating effect. One example would be for a worm to send a copy of itself to everyone listed in your e-mail address book. Then, the worm replicates and sends itself out to everyone listed in each of the receiver's address book, and the manifest continues on down the line.
Due to the copying nature of a worm and its capability to travel across networks the end result in most cases is that the worm consumes too much system memory (or network bandwidth), causing Web servers, network servers and individual computers to stop responding. In recent worm attacks such as the much-talked-about Blaster Worm, the worm has been designed to tunnel into your system and allow malicious users to control your computer remotely.

What is a trojan?

A Trojan is full of as much trickery as the mythological Trojan Horse it was named after. The Trojan Horse, at first glance will appear to be useful software but will actually do damage once installed or run on your computer. Those on the receiving end of a Trojan Horse are usually tricked into opening them because they appear to be receiving legitimate software or files from a legitimate source. When a Trojan is activated on your computer, the results can vary. Some Trojans are designed to be more annoying than malicious (like changing your desktop, adding silly active desktop icons) or they can cause serious damage by deleting files and destroying information on your system. Trojans are also known to create a backdoor on your computer that gives malicious users access to your system, possibly allowing confidential or personal information to be compromised. Unlike viruses and worms, Trojans do not reproduce by infecting other files nor do they self-replicate.
